i told my mum and she thought i was joking and then i started throwing away the meat on my plate. she said that i was being silly and that animals are made to be killed. I thought that was harsh! I wasn't completely sure at first but then i watched several videos and that made me sure that i wanted to become vegetarian. if you type "meet your meat" into youtube, you'll find a pretty horrible video about farm animals and stuff. I am a big animal lover anyway so i don't know why i ate meat in the first place.

Ive been fighting with myself for a long time about becoming vegan. A part of me feels like I should the other part of me says if everyone in the world became vegan then how much more wildlife lands would be destroyed for agricultuler growth. Plus I dont think my family or boyfriend supports the idea which really sucks because he wants to be a Chef so he should know about how healthy the food is for you. In the Garden of Eden we were all Vegan at one point. For now until I can pay for the food myself im just going to settle with being vegitarian.

I went veg about 2 weeks ago and my mom ABSOLUTELY hates it. At the begining she though it was only going to be a few day thing. After she realized i was serious she went out of her way to make all my favorite foods (meat filled of course) and is always saying how good it is. If I want to eat anything vggie i have to cook it myself. Its getting really hard to not eat it but I want to stand up for what i believe in. She still doesn't support me after we watched Food Inc. together.

Pleease email me if you have any tips on how to stay strong

I chose to be a vegetarian this weekend actually and it's been going good. Then I realized that all I have been eating these past 3 days is rice. My mom is the only one in family because my dad left us and when I told her I needed more supplies to eat she said "you're 15 years old, you are not becoming a vegetarian, you are being stupid and ignorant. you're gonna need to get protein from somewhere, but I'm not gonna buy you stuff to do this, so either you eat me or you starve"
i was like wtf??I bursted into tears because she has no idea how hard it is for me to sit there and eat something that went through pain to become food. Like what does it matter if I eat meat or not????? if i dont wanna eat meat then i dont have to. I am still hurt and shocked. Nothing I say or do is right. All i want is a supportive family. I really need advice from somewhere or someone, because it hurts not having your family by your side.

My dad doesn't mind, but my three brothers and my mom absolutely despise me for it. They think it is a waste of time and constantly taunt me. My mom even sneaks meat in my food, but she's not very stealthy and I always find out before i eat it. They ask me almost every day why I do it and I constantly tell them that I don't support the barbaric slaughterhouse methods. Actually, just the other week, my mom and I saw some man beating his cows with a stick. I was about to walk over and tell him off when my mom grabbed my arm. She said "What do you think you're doing?" When I told her, she laughed and said "They are wild animals. You have to best them to get them to listen." It was the sickest thing I had ever heard!! Beat an animal to make it do what you want? I wanted to slap her. But I resisted. And I will never eat meat again, despite my family's objections.

I've been a vegan for a few years now, my adult kids are also vegans. My dad use to make fun of us when he found out, he even made it a point to invite us over for beef burritos. I no longer talk to him or my sister, they just couldnt accept our lifestyle change. Its been 2 years since I last saw him, since hes had open heart surgery for 3 clogged arteries due to his obsession for meat. Anyhow my mom and brother think were extremist and no one invites us over anymore. Disclaimer: I have never shoved my choices down anyones throat. I just stood my ground and never let anyone bully me or my kids into some pathetic debate over my personal decisions. Im proud to be vegan, if it means I have to sacrifice family then so be it.

I am 14 now and I decided a few days ago that I wanted to be a vegetarian. I had a Vegetarian Site open in one of the tabs on my computer while I was on it yesterday and my sister ((twins:also 14 years old)) came into my room to see what I was up to and saw the tab at the top of my screen that said "GOVeg" and she laughed. Then I asked what she was laughing at and she pointed at it and said, "You want to be a vegetarian, Sadi, that's stupid." It really offended me, I tried to explain that it's healthier, etc, but she told me "whatever, it won't last." I really don't like it, I mean, it is my choice of what I want to eat, isn't it? Next year is my first year of high school and I am going to try to not eat any meat through all of it to really jump start my decision. I am trying to cut out all meats at once right now. I already don't like: some sausages, pork, steak, and ribs.
I do like: breakfast sausage and ground beef.

I don't like liking meat but I do and I want to stop. I posted on Facebook that "I want to go Veg. :)" and my stepmother ((of whom is not the evil type: I love her more than my blood related mom)) commented "You want to give up juicy burgers and that delicious meat in the Chinese food at the mall?"... I do currently like those things but I'm going to try to slowly cut types of meats out, and work my way up.

Please email me for tips and or recipes that would help me in my vegetarian decision. :)

Seriously. My family's been pretty supportive of all that I do, up until this point.
See, I've never really liked eating meat, it's always kinda grossed me out, but it pleased my mother if I ate the food that she made and cleaned my plate.
But fortunately, I grew up from that to recognize that what I put into my body is my choice and unless I want to feel disgusting I have to eat less disgusting foods.
And one of my close friends recently became vegan, which at first I thought was crazy, until I read Skinny Bitch (EVERYONE SHOULD) Turns out, all animal products are detromental to your health, but meat / vegetarianism is the most publicized (the rest, excuse the pun, is too hard to swallow)
So I started not eating the meats that she made, but heaping my plate with the healthy veggies and carbs.
They make fun of the 'new Hannah' and think that I'm going to die because I'm 'not getting protein'.
Please, if they even read this book they might understand how well planned out my eating can be.
Still, three months later now, they use the phrase, "Now that Hannah doesn't eat meat anymore" as though I've violated some sacred tradition, and disgraced them!
However my mother did do me the sort-of justice of buying me vegetarian heat-ups like chickenless nuggets and meatless corn dogs. (Which, to my dismay, contain animal products. Yuck.)
In conclusion I have accepted the fact that I may not be totally vegan until college (1 more year...)

I sincerely hope that your family will enlighten themselves (buy them the book?)
Although I'm proud of myself I want them to be happier and healthier too.
