The overall purpose of the Tougaloo College 21st CCLC is to positively impact the lives of “at-risk” middle school youth attending Capital City Alternative School and ensure academic success by providing a variety of high-quality services that support student learning and social development by including the following: academic enrichment and tutoring, violence prevention services, dropout prevention seminars, mentoring initiatives, civic engagement opportunities, career development, character building, health and wellness initiatives, technology programs, arts and cultural activities, college prep initiatives, social family support services and family bonding activities. These services are designed to increase academic performance, reduce anti-social behaviors committed by “at-risk” youth and offer youth opportunities to learn more positive lifestyles and enhance their capacity to make healthier life choices.
