Siskin Children’s Institute makes life better for children with special needs and their familes. Based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the non-profit organization achieves its mission locally and nationally through four initiatives: education, outreach, health care and research. Award Winning Short Film The Pages of Life’ –A Short Film on family’s role in Mental Health/illness, by Chaitanya Mental Health Care Centre has been awarded Best Short Film in FRAME OF MIND 2010 organized by Schizophrenia Reasearch Foundation (SCARF) Chennai. Brief summary of the movie : It’s a simple movie about a family with their daughter suffering from mental illness (Paranoid Schizophrenia). It conveys the struggle, bold decisions, determination of the family in taking care of their dear one. The story is conveyed through the diary of the father where in he conveys about his difficulties in accepting their daughters illness, bringing up a conscience among the family members about her treatment and need of family support, right decision, though difficult, to admit her in the mental health care centre (instead of taking her to faith healers, not getting mislead by the wrong advices of the relatives (about getting her married) in taking care of their daughter etc. The film ends with happy note that daughter is completing her studies and the struggle and bold decisions of the family brings success in taking care of their daughter with mentall illness.
