Deborah Mullen talks about support and counseling available for families to deal with the stress of deployments. She also talks about TAPS, the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, and how the organization helps those who are grieving the death of a loved one serving in the Armed Forces. Deborah is the wife of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Michael Mullen. One important point she makes – even after someone has died in service to their country – the family they leave behind is still connected with the military community.

On Saturday, September 8, 2007 in Lacey, Washington approximately 2000 people gathered to show their support for military families. The event was sponsored by the Hawks Prairie Rotary Club. All proceeds from the event went to support local military families in need. Over $50000 was raised for the families. Jason Hearn, a candidate for Lacey City Council, and some of his supporters were among the participants.
